Grateful Dead - Iko Iko (Shoreline 9/30/89)
"Although some early versions of Iko Iko appeared out of Drums and Space, by 1984 it was primarily a set opener, both the first and second sets. Whenever those opening notes of Iko Iko opened a first or second set, it felt like party time was starting, and a fun set was coming up." - David Lemieux
Directed by Len Dell’Amico and co-produced by Len Dell’Amico and GDP.

This song features Dr. John in one of his last known recordings, along with the Grateful Dead's Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, New Orleans' luminaries Ivan Neville, Donald Harrison, and George Porter, Jr., and more. Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band—a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation—a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting music programs for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

Reiff Rd to Cache Creek
This is Tomm's first ride on dirt with his new knee. Apparently it's also just after he discovered TikTok videos. (Sorry about that!)
Video starts out with my helmet cam from my KTM 690 Enduro R with the second half from Tomm's point of view aboard his Husky 701. -

Cache Creek Crossing
I went back up, this time with more gas to see if we couldn't get across Cache Creek. We found a line that was pretty easy and shallow and it really was pretty easy! This was on my 690 Enduro

AufRoad in Grizzly Flat a few days before the Caldor Fire
This video was going to be all about this great trail I found between Pollock Pines on Hwy 50 and Hwy 88 but the Caldor Fire happened. I'm hoping for the best for all the residents, livestock and structures there. I've heard on the news that Grizzly Flat was leveled. I decided to just keep the video in it's raw format unedited. -
AufRoad The Full Henness Pass from the Bottom
I wanted to make sure I rode ALL of Henness Pass Road so this time I started from the bottom and worked my way up. I also found where it was I went wrong last time and set a waypoint for that so I wouldn't miss it again. -
AufRoad Henness Pass Rd
From Hwy 89 just outside of Truckee, west down to Hwy 49 just outside of Grass Valley -

This is attempt #2 at my trying to connect Hwy 50 to Hwy 80 -
Hwy 80 to 50 Part 1
https://aufroad.com/truckee-to-pollock-pines-part-1/
So, I have this thing. I want to connect Hwy 50 to Hwy 80 somewhere in the mountains, mostly dirt if at all possible.
I bought GPS Kevin’s Route for what he calls the Great Pacific Divide Route and if you zoom in close enough it appears that it could be done!
I had a free weekend, the bike was ready but couldn’t find anyone to ride with. For safety’s sake I always want to ride with a partner, but I do have a SPOT and the wife was leery but encouraging so I made the plan to go. My idea was to go up 50 then head north.
Friday night at Calicraft we had beers with Tomm and Kevin. I asked Kevin if he was heading up to his store in Columbia this weekend and if so, if I need a place to pitch a tent, could I. He said yes, so my route changed to starting in Truckee and heading south so I was moving closer to Columbia as I went. -
Knoxville Berryessa with Tomm and Catfish Mike
Just a quick ride up through Berryessa to Knoxville OHV, then up and over through Reiff Rd to Cache Creek. From there Mike and I headed up to Clearlake, then down to Middleton and Pope Valley via Butts - and finally back through Berryessa and home. -
Cerro Gordo Loop Clockwise
We started out the morning with the idea that I wanted to give Tomm a tour up to Cerro Gordo. I was originally going to go the same way I had with my Overland friends (up from the west side around Keeler), but I missed the turn off so we took Hwy 190 to Saline Valley Rd and went in via the backside.

From there it’s a long flat easy gravel road for a while until you get to the squiggly parts of the map. It’s then that the nice gravel turns to ugly gravel. This gravel is larger and deep. You’ll get little traction here and the best you can do is keep up momentum as best you can. You can see that it’s almost a 100 mile loop and some pretty steep elevation changes. The west side of Cerro Gordo is the good kind of gravel, easy to go up, easy to go down.
