I’ve watched everything on YouTube about the LAB2V ride. Everything. The one thing that kept popping up, was that sometimes the rider was finishing at night. Have you ever ridden a dirt bike down a dusty trail you’ve never been down when you were tired from riding for 2 straight days? Me neither, but these guys were sometimes doing just that!
Here’s an older Honda running a Baja Design HID at LAB2V. This was pre LED technology.
Clearly, some of these guys are very worried about running at night, even with LED technology.
My bike has a LED Headlight already. It’s Cyclops and plugs right into the stock lens. It’s much brighter than the stock bulb but not enough for a late night LAB2V party session.
I know there’s more and better out there. Motominded doesn’t make the light, but they make the brackets and plugs that allow you to run super bright Baja Designs units on your bike in the same spot as the original headlight. 7,350 Lumens! That was my answer!
So I contacted MotoMinded to make sure they had everything in stock. They did but also warned me that there was a 8 week build time. I checked the calendar and I was a week short!
Concerned, I posted up in ADV that I was looking for a MotoMinded headlight for my KTM. I got zero replies so each week I would bump it to the top of the pile by just leaving a comment, “still looking for one…“
Weeks go by with nothing. Then just a few weeks before the event I get a reply!
We get to talking. It’s not exactly what I want but he’s willing to let me “borrow it” for the event! He’s a very nice guy and doing the ADV thing of helping people out. Big Kudos!
He pulls the unit out of his bike and ships it to me.
I find out there’s a small wiring issue, but one that’s easy to fix. Pulling out my multimeter and looking at the plug (the unit is plug and play) the low beam is in an upper position in my plug and a lower position in his headlight.
The easiest and best way to fix it would be to lower the pin in my side of the plugs which I did.
I plugged the headlight in, flipped the switch and we have LIGHT!
There’s one issue though. I run a fender bag. It carries a tube and some other things for the front tire. The way the headlight is, the biggest and brightest beams are right behind the fender bag!
Now that I have more time, I’ll be contacting Motominded to see about a remedy. Can I move all the lights up a bit higher? Can I move the high beam section (the lower quad light) to the top above the now upper dual light that is the low beam? I’ll find out and when I do I’ll share it here too!
