One of the things I noticed on the bike when I got it was the not so neat jumble under the seat. It was only when I started sifting through, looking for the ABS Dongle that I noticed that the battery hold down plate was not attached. It was on top of the battery just rattling around in there.
They had a few pieces of rubber over the terminals in an effort to protect it from damage. Despite their efforts you could see there had been rubbing and this was on the positive terminal!
So I pulled out the battery and while it is one of the better styles (AGM) it just looked like it was too tall. It’s a Walmart brand which leads me to believe it was replaced on a trip in an emergency.
A few Google searches confirmed that I should have a shorter battery. Cycle gear had one in stock.
I checked with Battery and Bulbs (a store that sells just that) and found the same size and style for half the price.

The battery went in nice and perfect. I sourced a few allen heads for the missing battery hold down and did a little organization on the nest of wires. It’s back to looking like it should.
While I was in there, I also hooked up a direct (fused) line to the battery for a battery tender or my heated jacket. I looked for a way to route it up towards the handle bars but that looked a little more difficult for right now. Once I get the Rottweiler filter in there I may rethink that. For now the outlet is right next to my gas cap – what could possibly go wrong?
